The Namibian forward, Deon Hotto, struck a last-minute winner for Orlando Pirates in the 90+4 minute to give the buccaneers a win in the MTN8 semi-final first leg match against Stellenbosch FC at Athlone Stadium in Cape Town on Sunday.

The Buccaneers were up against Steve Barker's side, which defeated them in their opening game of the 2023–24 Dstv Premiership season.

Ahead of the MTN8 semi-final clash, the Orlando Pirates head coach, Jose Riveiro, made only one change in the starting XI that played against Cape Town City midweek. He dropped the 16-year-old, Relebohile Mofokeng, and called up Deon Hotto to re-enforce the Bucs attack.

Orlando Pirates outplayed the Winelands side in the first 30 minutes of the first half, with their front three forwards—Monnapule Saleng, Patrick Maswanganyi, and Zakhele Lepasa—breathing on the necks of the Stellies defence.

The home side suffered a setback when Thabo Moloisane was shown a red card in the 32nd minute for a studs-up challenge on Patrick Maswanganyi.

However, Stellies managed to take a lead with 10 men before halftime through Touré's header from the corner kick at the 45+6 minute. The Pirates equalized through Lepasa after 21 minutes in the second half.

At the last minute, Hotto got to the end of Maswanganyi's ball to give the Pirates a late 2 - 1 win against Stellies 10-man side.

The second leg of the MTN8 semi-finals will be played on September 23 and 24 in Gauteng Province.
