The former Mamelodi Sundowns head coach, Pitso Mosimane, took it to social media and praised his former attacking midfielder, Themba Zwane, following his outstanding performance—scoring a brace—in an international friendly clash between Bafana Bafana and Algeria on Tuesday night.

Mosimane publicly and enthusiastically hailed the 34-year-old Bafana Bafana and Sundowns playmaker on an X (previously Twitter) repost, referring to him as a leader that coalesce the team.

"No arguments with the Coaches, but has an opinion. He keeps the dressing room quiet and focused , unselfish behaviour and cares about the team. Does not like anybody who dims his light. Always laughing but an introvert.

"You have to give him respect and appreciate his talent. Just tell him to dance and ski on the pitch and sit back . You will enjoy. Leader!," wrote Mosimane.

Zwane spent more than five seasons at Sundowns playing under Mosimane, from the 2015–16 season to the 2020–21 season.

Mosimane and Zwane both adorned their trophy cabinets—personal and club—during that period, having won the CAF Champions League, one Super Cup, two Nedbank Cups, two Telkom knockouts, and four consecutive South African Premier Leagues.

Six months prior to Mosimane departure at Amaswandawana, Zwane took home five of the most coveted awards, including PSL Footballer of the Season, PSL Player's Player of the Season, and PSL Midfielder of the Season, at the 2019–20 PSL awards.

At a separate awards ceremony held by Mamelodi Sundowns, he was awarded the Sundowns Player of the Season and Sundowns's Players player of the Season.

Arriving at Sundowns in 2015 to the bemused Mosimane, who was already in his third stunt with Sundowns without a title, Zwane has been constant since then and fitly stepped in to lead Amaswandawana to glory after legend players such as Thabo Ntethe, Hlompo Kekana, and Surprise Moriri left the club.

In his 232 appearances for Sundowns, Zwane has scored 54 goals. Most recently, he led the Pretoria side to victory in the inaugural African Football League.
