The top 8 competition is expected to commence tomorrow afternoon at 15h00 in Lucas Masterpiece Moripe Stadium, when Mamelodi Sundowns welcome Moroka Swallows.

The 2023–24 MTN 8 competition comes as a clean sweep, as the new trophy was unveiled by MTN at the official launch in Randburg on Thursday. The trophy was transmuted for the first time after MTN took over the sponsorship of the top 8 competition in 2008.

Between 2008 and 2022, the trophy was held by ten different clubs, including Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns, Moroka Swallows, SuperSport United, and Kaizer Chiefs.

The Orlando Pirates are current holders of the MTN 8 trophy, having been crowned champions of the competition last season when they defeated Amazulu FC at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

All the quarterfinal matches are expected to be played over the weekend, between the 12th (Saturday) and the 13th (Sunday). The competition is made up of the top eight finishes in the Dstv Premiership season. The 2022–23 Dstv Premiership top 8 finishes are: Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates, Supersport United, Cape Town City, Kaizer Chiefs, Stellenbosch FC, Sekhukhune United, and Moroka Swallows. (ranked from 1st place to 8th place finish)
