The public broadcaster SABC has announced that it has reached an agreement with Multichoice to broadcast the 2023 Rugby World Cup held in France.

SABC came to an agreement with Multichoice to live broadcast 16 rugby world cup games, including all the games the Springboks will participate in, the opening ceremony and opening game, two quarterfinals, one semi-final, the bronze final, the final, and the closing ceremony.

In a statement released yesterday by the Department of Sports, Arts, and Culture, Minister Zizi Kodwa humbly welcomed the 2023 Rugby World Cup broadcast sub-license deal between SABC and Multichoice.

He said this will allow South Africans to watch and support the Springboks as they look to defend their Rugby World Cup title.

"I welcome this ground-breaking agreement, which will allow all South Africans to watch the world champions, the Springboks, as they defend their Rugby World Cup title," said Minister Kodwa.

The Springboks will launch their title-defending campaign on Sunday against Scotland in Marseille at 17:45 CAT.

As the 2023 Rugby World Cup campaign kicks off tonight at 21:15 (CAT), SABC will live broadcast the opening game between the hosts, France and New Zealand, at Saint-Denis on SABC 2 and on SABC radio stations.
